Electrathon Competition Coming Up
Our Electrathon Car Club members will be taking a two day field trip to Corning, New York and Watkins Glen, New York. Shortly after the morning announcements on Thursday, April 10th the team will board one of our school busses to travel to the Corning Museum of Glass. They will be given a complete tour of the museum and participate in a glass-working project. A generous community member has supplied the necessary funding for the glass-working project. We sincerely thank this community member for understanding just how important an endeavor like this is for our students.
After touring the Corning Museum of Glass the club will stay overnight at a nearby motel. On Friday, April 11th, the team will travel the short distance to the Watkins Glen International Speedway for their chance to compete with their newly re-engineered cars against other Electrathon teams from throughout New York, Canada, Pennsylvania, and New England. The team will be going up against high school and college teams. Our students have made some drastic design changes to their cars since last year’s competition at Lime Rock Park Speedway in Lakeville, Connecticut.
Perhaps one of these students will be working on your future electric car, or they might even participate in the design of that car. The possibilities are endless. Please congratulate the following students for all their hard work and determination toward this exciting and challenging effort: Austin Pierce (club treasurer), Ethan Bush, Chase Arsenault, Leah Foster (club secretary), Lance Gocke (club vice-president), Kole Morrissey, and Shaneka Burch (club president).
Below is a link to a photo page taken when we last visited the Watkins Glen International Speedway. Scroll through the photos, you’ll see several familiar faces. Our lone car of that year (#20) is white with “Stewart’s” across its front.
